Stainless Steel Balls – Overview, Application Scope & Performance Standards

1. Overview

Stainless steel balls are high-precision spherical components made from materials such as 304, 316L, 420 and 440C stainless steel through forging, precision grinding, heat treatment and polishing.

They feature corrosion resistance, cleanliness, environmental friendliness, moderate hardness, high dimensional accuracy and excellent wear resistance.

They are widely used in bearings, valves, grinding, polishing, decoration and various precision mechanical devices, meeting the requirements of food, pharmaceutical, chemical, electronic, general machinery and other industries.

2. Application Scope

  • Grinding & Polishing: Planetary ball mills, powder grinding, surface polishing and finishing of hardware, electronics and medical devices

  • Mechanical Transmission: Bearings, universal balls, slide rails, rollers, precision transmission mechanisms

  • Valves & Fluid Control: Ball valve cores, pipeline valves, water pumps, sanitary faucets

  • Food & Pharmaceutical: Food processing equipment, pharmaceutical machinery, hygienic fluid systems

  • Electronics & New Materials: Electronic parts, magnetic materials, lithium battery material grinding

  • Construction & Decoration: Decorative balls, artworks, lighting fixtures, curtain wall accessories

  • Others: Toys, stationery, fitness equipment, automotive parts, aerospace precision components

3. Performance Standards

  • Material Standards: Commonly used 304/316L/420/440C, chemical composition conforms to GB, ASTM, JIS and other standards

  • Dimensional Accuracy: Diameter tolerance up to ±0.001mm, precision class G10–G100

  • Roundness: Roundness error ≤ 0.001mm for high-precision products

  • Surface Finish: Ra ≤ 0.02μm (mirror finish) ~ Ra ≤ 0.8μm (general precision grinding)

  • Hardness

    • 304/316L: HRC 20–28

    • 420: HRC 45–52

    • 440C: HRC 55–62

  • Corrosion Resistance: No rust after ≥48 hours salt spray test for 304, ≥72 hours for 316L

  • Operating Temperature: -50℃ ~ 400℃ (depending on material grade)

  • Applicable Standards: GB/T 308, ISO 3290, ASTM F2281

Product Advantage

  • Smooth Surface & High Roundness

Boasts a smooth surface and high roundness, non-sticky to materials, easy to clean, and ideal for hygiene-grade working conditions.

  • Moderate Density & Uniform Grinding

With moderate density, it delivers uniform grinding force, effectively refines materials without over-crushing, and is perfect for fine grinding and dispersion.

  • High Dimensional Accuracy

Maintains high precision in size, compatible with laboratory ball mills as well as industrial grinding and polishing equipment.

  • Non-Magnetic Option

Certain grades (304/316L) are non-magnetic, making them suitable for grinding magnetic-sensitive electronic materials.
